Have you delivered a technologically innovative ship in 2009? Send the KNVTS your nomination for the KNVTS Ship of the Year Award 2010 before 15 June 2010.
The KNVTS celebrated its 100 year anniversary in 1998 by establishing the KNVTS Ship of the Year Award. Every year, this prestigious award is awarded to a technologically innovative ship of both Dutch design and mainly Dutch produce. Last year, the award went to the Doña Angela Maria T (picture).
Distinguish Your Company
Dutch maritime industry is very innovative. Nominating your ship allows you the chance to distinguish your company and to place your design, people and customer in the spotlight. Enter your technologically innovative ship delivered in 2009 for the award with the KNVTS before 15 June 2010.
Selection Criteria
A committee consisting of leading maritime specialists will judge and select the most pioneering ship based on the following criteria:
– Design: Innovations in the ship, ship design, equipment, loading systems or processes, first design on the market, first in a series of new ships, market impact.
– Building process: Extra difficulties for the shipyard, special forms of cooperation between parties involved, new ways of financing.
– Sustainability: Energy saving aspects in propulsion and hull shape, emission, ballast water management and other environmental aspects.
– Safety: Improved ship safety, better provisions or working conditions.
– Economics: Attention to “design for service”, optimising proceeds, reducing operational costs, reduce fuel consumption, heightened availability or reliable arrival times.
Categories
The committee nominates ships for the award in the categories shipping (seagoing), inland shipping, yacht industry, fishing and special craft (for example dredgers, offshore support vessels, tug boats, marine vessels). The committee nominates three ships at most and can nominate several ships in one category, but only one per ship type.
Media Attention
In 2010 the award will again be presented during the Maritime Awards Gala and consists of
an authentic model of a Dutch flute ship, a freighter for European shipping developed at the end of the sixteenth century. Through targeted PR the nominees will be brought to the attention of maritime media, for example through a special edition of SWZ Maritime.
