On 30 January 2007 the Willem van der Zwan was all but destroyed by a fire while being docked for maintenance. Since rebuilding was faster than waiting for a new vessel to be built, the Willem van der Zwan was rebuilt. The March edition of SWZ Maritime that appears March 26th features a special on ship repair and conversion. Of course this special contains an article on the Willem van der Zwan that was rebuilt by Scheldepoort Repair and Conversion Yard.
