The Training Institute for Dredging (TID) is a part of MTI Holland – the IHC Merwede group’s global knowledge centre for dredging and wet mining, which has grown significantly over the past three years.

It has not only grown in terms of numbers of personnel, but also with regard to the development of its training courses.

Competence-based Training Courses
The TID courses have evolved from being purely informative and technical, to being competence-based trainings.

TID is able to function as a human resource partner for contractors in the dredging and wet mining industries. This ensures that all levels of personnel – from management to operators – are trained to suit the specific requirements of their respective roles and positions. For example, TID has recently signed a co-operation agreement with a customer based on a competence management system.

Training Resources
Over the years, TID’s training methods have become increasingly diverse and are now being delivered in a variety of ways tailored to the needs of each customer. These consist of everything from classroom work and on-the-job training, to the use of simulators and workshops.

A growing number of resources are now available to support the framework for the courses, such as:
– A new simulator: an IHC 8527MP® was added to the line-up of cutter suction dredger simulators at the end of 2009. Two simulators based on a Beaver 6518 and an IHC 7025 MP® were already in place. These enable TID to train operators in handling real-life situations without any risk of damage or loss of production.
– A practical training facility: TID’s very own training section within the MTI laboratory will be inaugurated in April of this year.
– Web-based training: this was recently added to TID’s training methods, enabling trainees to follow a course at their own pace and in their own surroundings.
