Against expectations, used yacht sales in 2009 have stayed on approximately the same level as in 2008. This can partly be explained by people willing to sell their yachts at lower prices.
These conclusions can be drawn from sales figures from HISWA Realtors.
Michaël Steenhoff, corporate group manager of HISWA Vereniging: ‘Used yachts were much cheaper in 2009. Dropping asking prices clearly indicate this, yet you can really be sure when you compare these to eventual selling prices. The difference between asking price and selling price has increased significantly. In the last quarter of 2009 the difference in prices got smaller again; which shows sales(wo)men got a more realistic view of what their boats are worth.’
