MEP Peter van Dalen (European Conservatives and Reformists) will be in charge of drafting Parliament’s report on the Maritime Transport Strategy paper adopted by the European Commission last January. The “Communication on strategic goals and recommendations for the European Union’s maritime transport policy 2009-2018” is a ten year strategy plan is to promote safe, secure, clean and efficient shipping.

Earlier this year, ESPO already welcomed that the strategy does recommend the full implementation of the Commission’s ports policy communication, highlights the need to ensure the right conditions for attracting investment flows to the port sector and recommends generalised fast-track procedures to significantly cut the overall lead time of environmental assessment for port expansion projects.

Mr van Dalen expects to present his draft report in committee in January.
