IHC Merwede has announced the launch of a brand new series IHC Beaver Cutter Suction Dredgers. IHC Merwede chose Europort 2009 to unveil one of the new ships in the series, the IHC Beaver 50.
The dredger combines lower operating costs and high productivity with reliability and ease of operation. Special attention has been paid to environmental factors in the development of the new Beaver range. For the IHC Beaver 50, efficient use of power is ensured by applying a single, low-emission, diesel engine for all energy consumers on board, such as the dredge pump, hydraulic installation and 230V board net.
In addition, the IHC Beaver 50 has grease-free bearings for all the wire sheaves on board to eliminate spillage of lubrication grease into ambient water. The diesel engine is also placed on
vibration dampers to reduce noise levels.
The New Series
The new series comprises the Beaver 30, 40, 45, 50, 55 DDSP and 65 DDSP. The type number indicates the internal discharge pipe diameter in centimetres. “DDSP” indicates the use of a (diesel) directly driven submerged pump that is standard for the larger dredger models.
IHC Merwede’s Beaver range of demountable cutter suction dredgers was originally introduced in 1963 and these dredgers have built up a solid reputation over the years. To date, IHC Merwede has supplied more than 800 of these standardised cutter suction dredgers worldwide.
