The three E’s in the Tug project represent Economically Viable, Efficient in Operations and Environmentally Friendly. The jury applauded SMIT’s E3 Tug by awarding it the KVNR Shipping Award.
The goal of the project was developing a propulsion installation, optimised to the actual use of a tug boat. With this project SMIT anticipated measures local authorities (will) take to improve the environment in and around ports.
Nominated
Project Shore Support was also nominated for the KVNR Shipping Award. Wagenborg Shipping initiated Shore Support, a project that started in 2008 and now has 25 shortsea ships participating. The goal is to change the construction of the crew combined with effective technical support from the shore.
