On august 19th 2009, Mr Sérgio Machado, President of Transpetro, officially opened the Holland Marine House Brazil. HMHB builds a bridge between the Brazilian and Dutch maritime and offshore industries.

The Holland Marine House Brazil is officially supported by Dutch government. The opening ceremony was co-hosted by the Consul General of The Netherlands, Mr Paul Comenencia, and Holland Shipbuilding Association.

Opening speech

In his opening speech Mr Machado referred to the long historic ties between the Brazilian and Dutch shipbuilding industries. According to Mr Machado, it is now time to revive the good relations: “We need new ships, which we want to build in partnership. The Netherlands have the modern technology to help us achieving that aim. Today we are toasting to the official opening of the Holland Marine House Brazil in Rio de Janeiro. It is one more significant step in the supply of marine equipment and transfer of technology. It creates the possibility for partnerships, cooperation and joint ventures.”

The linking pin

Holland Shipbuilding Association’s General director Martin Bloem welcomed the words of Mr Machado, and referred to the successful visit of Prime Minister Balkenende and Minister Eurlings in March of this year. “That’s what started this initiative off. We are convinced that Petrobras and Transpetro will give Dutch companies a special position, when entering the Brazilian market. The HMHB will be the linking pin between the two industries, making trade easier, also for small and medium sized companies.”

The Holland Marine House Brazil represents at this moment eighteen Dutch companies and is created by HME.
