On Friday 24 April H.R.H. Princess Máxima of the Netherlands will officiate at the christening and launch of trailing suction hopper dredger Vox Máxima. The vessel is being built for Van Oord at the IHC Merwede yard in Kinderdijk, the Netherlands.
Measuring 203 m in length, 31 m in the beam and with a loading capacity of 31,200 m³, the Vox Máxima is the largest trailing suction hopper dredger ever built in the Netherlands. It will be launched immediately after the christening ceremony and then docked along the quay for further final construction. The vessel will be commissioned in late 2009 and deployed on major dredging projects worldwide.
In view of the size of the ship and the complexity of the launch, the yard is not accessible to the public during this event.
