The EU division that monitors competitiveness has given its consent for Hamburg-based Albert Ballin’s takeover of Hapag-Lloyd. The EC decided this has no relevant impact on the European container market.
The transaction involves 4.45 billion euros and is said to be final within three to four weeks. TUI stays involved with the shipping company as it holds a 33 per cent interest in Hapag-Lloyd worth 910 million euros.
