Dr Anne-Marie Warris, one of the Lloyd’s Register Group’s leading environmental and climate change experts, has been appointed Chairwoman of the International Standards Organisation, Technical Committee 207’s Subcommittee 1, ISO/TC 207/SC1.
ISO/TC 207 is the ‘umbrella committee’ under which the ISO 14000 series of environmental management standards are being developed. ISO/TC 207/SC1 is specifically responsible for producing standards and guidance documents related to environmental management systems. ISO/TC 207 was created on the recommendation of the ISO Strategic Advisory Group on the Environment (SAGE) in 1992. They decided environmental concerns “were not subordinate to quality concerns, but were of separate and equal importance.” Therefore, environmental management systems should not fall within the framework of the ISO Quality Technical Committee.
About Dr Warris
Dr Warris has been involved in ISO/TC 207 activities since November 2000, as UK principle delegate to ISO/TC 207/SC1. She is principle UK delegate to subcommittee 7 (related to green house gas management and related activities) that developed ISO14064:3, ISO14065 as well as being involved the ongoing work on ISO14066.
She has been Vice Chair of the UK Emission Trading Group (ETG), a board member of International Emission Trading Association (IETA) and currently chairs the monitoring, reporting and verification forum in IETA. She is also involved in the International Accreditation Forum (IAF).
Dr Warris joined the Lloyd’s Register Group in 1989 to manage their environmental consultancy business. In 1996 she moved to Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA). During her time as the Global GHG Technical Manager for the LRQA Green house Gas Unit, Dr Warris authored the Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) 2007 which was based substantially on ISO14064:2 and ISO14065. She currently supports various operations across Lloyd’s Register including the Marine Business Stream in the area of climate change.
