Both the Coral Methane, designed by Anthony Veder, and Spliethoff's Training Vessel Project won the KVNR Shipping Award. The jury felt it was impossible to choose between the two, since both focussed on important issues in maritime industry: the environment and the shortage of oceangoing staff.
Anthony Veder's Coral Methane (on the right in the picture) is the first LNG/Ethylene/LPG Combination gas tanker. The vessel has a super clean ship notation because it can use the LNG it transports as fuel. The vessel can be used for different gas markets and makes it possible to bring cleaner fuels to countries such as Norway that do not possess an underground gas pipe system. Anthony Veder expects the ship contributes to the Netherlands becoming the gas rotary of Europe.
Spliethoff's Training Vessels
Spliethoff's Bevrachtingskantoor, together with ROC NOVA College and the Maritime Academy, has equipped eight new ships with an extra training deck. A second bridge is placed on top of the existing working bridge. This allows young sailors to experience the profession early on and makes education much less theoretical.
