Contracting a 19,000 tdw deep water fallpipe rockdumping vessel with Sembawang Shipyard in Singapore means another design of Dutch based Ulstein Sea of Solutions will be built. The Euro 100 million vessel has been designed for Tideway Offshore Contractors, the Dutch offshore subsidiary of the DEME Group and is scheduled for delivery in January 2011.

The DP2 classed vessel is able to accurately place rocks at 2000 metres waterdepth to protect subsea oil and gas lines. It therefore will be equipped with a sophisticated ROV system, enabling to position the lower end of the fallpipe very accurately. The operational speed of 15 knots
enables the vessel to move quickly back and forth
to stone quarries and improving world wide mobilisation times.

The vessel is ‘a complete green design’ and fully in line with Lloyds Environmental Protection Code, meaning amongst others that energy-saving measures are implemented and NOx emissions are limited to the absolute minimum.

Ulstein Sea of Solutions is happy the fallpipe vessel has been contracted with a yard. “The industry primarily knows us as leading in offshore pipelay and heavy lift crane vessels, but these types of vessels are also in our portfolio,” says managing director Bob Rietveldt. “Previously, we worked on the DP upgrade of the ‘Tideway Rollingstone’ and the current project has strengthened the cooperation with Tideway even further. Besides, we think it marvellous that this vessel is being built for a Dutch company.”
