Damen Shipyards will take over Shipdock, a company in ship repair. Shipdock has two yards for ocean-going vessels, one in Amsterdam and one in Harlingen. 150 people are employed at Shipdock of which fifty work in Harlingen.
The take over came as a surprise to Shipdock’s employees. Shipdock is a continuation of the NDSM and ADM yards in Amsterdam. The company went bankrupt in 2005 but made a new start as Shipdock. Currently, the company is once again making profit and has become an attractive party for Damen due to a large demand for yard capacity and a full order book.
Damen Shipyards does not yet want to comment on the acquisition. The amount of money being paid for Shipdock has not been announced. Shipdock’s personnel will stay on. The connection with Damen further expands the order book and the company’s continuity is thereby guaranteed.
