Van Oord has been awarded a contract for dredging and reclamation activities for the expansion works of the Brisbane Airport in Queensland, Australia. The total contract value amounts to EUR 22 million. Client is the Brisbane Airport Corporation. Execution of the works will start end of April and the project is scheduled for completion in August 2008.

The Brisbane Airport Corporation requires 2,000,000 m3 of sand from Middle Banks in Moreton Bay to be dredged and pumped ashore into four reclamation areas at the Brisbane Airport. A portion of this sand will be used for other construction activities of Brisbane Airport. The dredging and reclamation activities will be subject to an environmental monitoring program and will be carried out under strict environmental conditions, i.e. with respect to achieved turbidity levels of discharge water. Van Oord will deploy trailing suction hopper dredger Volvox Asia.
