Suppliers and shipyards expect 20,000 visitors when they open their doors to the public. On 12 April, during the Shipyard Week, many maritime companies host activities to acquaint public and students with maritime industry.
Currently, maritime industry has 2500 vacancies. The Shipyard Week is meant to show the career opportunities the dynamic martime sector has to offer.
Better image
Minister of Economic Affairs, Van der Hoeven, opened the Shipyard Week on 7 April at Oceanco’s shipyard in Alblasserdam. She claims Dutch shipbuilding has to work on its image: “Show the world what shipbuilding entails.”
Activities
Many shipyards will exhibit ship components, give demonstrations, host guided tours etc. The activities start at 10 o’clock on 12 April.
Politicians
On 11 April parliamentary parties of the PvdA will visit Keppel Verolme, the SP will visit IHC Merwede and Wärtsilä and the CDA will visit the TU Delft and Van Lent Shipyard.
The Shipyard Week is organised for the second time and focusses on education and employment.
