The European Shipyard Week is meant to acquaint the general public and students with innovative maritime industry and to show them the career opportunities the sector has to offer. During this week the public is welcome to visit shipyards and maritime suppliers. The Dutch Shipyard Week lasts from 7 to 12 April.

b>Opening
Günter Verheugen, Vice-President of the European Commission, opened the European Shipyard Week during an official ceremony on April 2. Professionals from the shipbuilding industry and representatives of European unions and shipyards attended the ceremony.

Dutch Shipyard Week
The Dutch Shipyard Week is held from 7 to 12 April and was opened by Maria van der Hoeven, Minister of Economic Affairs at Oceanco in Alblasserdam. From 8 to 11 April students can visit several shipyards and suppliers whereas the general public is welcome on the 12th. On 11 April politicians will visit maritime companies. The Dutch Shipyard Week is organised by Scheepsbouw Nederland (Shipbuilding Netherlands), the unions CNV and FNV, schools and several maritime companies. The week is the result of a European initiative of social partners and is organised in several European countries.
