Transporting cargo by ship can be executed by a lot of shipowners from many countries. Still, when it comes to lifting, floating or rolling special, heavy or voluminous cargo for complex projects, Dutch shipowners are at the top of the market.
Wikipedia states that project cargo ‘is a term used to broadly describe the national or international transportation of large, heavy, high value or critical (to the project they are intended for) pieces of equipment.’ The need for this type of transportation has resulted in specific ship types. Although competition of especially German and Chinese companies is on the rise, Dutch shipowners have succeeded in taking a leading role in this special branch of project cargo with medium and heavy loads through the last decade.
