Agnieta Habben Jansen with her entry 'Vulnerability Reduction of Distributed Systems' and Niels de Vries with his research titled 'Ammonia as renewable fuel for the maritime industry' have been nominated for this year's Maritime Designer Award. This award is intended for individual designers, PhD students, recent graduates and start-ups who want to bring their work and approach to the fore.

Habben Jansen is a PhD student at TU Delft. She has developed a method for assessing, understanding and reducing the vulnerability of distribution systems on board naval vessels in the early design stage. The method is also applicable for the design of complex commercial vessels.

De Vries works as a Lead Naval Architect at C-Job Naval Architects. In his research, he has shown that ammonia is suitable as a renewable fuel for various ship propulsion systems. Application can make an important contribution to the reduction of CO2 emissions from global shipping.

The winner will be announced at the Maritime Awards Gala on 4 November (venue to be announced). The Collaborative Maritime Foundations ("Samenwerkende Maritieme Fondsen") will make a maximum of 24,000 euros available to the winner to financially stimulate further development of the design method or solution in question.
