On 1 November, the KNVTS ‘Ship of the Year Award 2007’ was awarded to the MS Deo Volente during the Maritime Awards Gala at the Hulstkampgebouw in Rotterdam. The Award was presented to Hartman Marine BV, the designers of the Deo Volente, by State Secretary of Transport and Public Works, Tineke Huizinga.
The Deo Volente was nominated in the category of seagoing vessels. The dry cargo ship has very special qualities and meets specific demands.
Hartman Marine BV created the design together with Conoship International BV. The starting points were determined by the Hartman brothers through extensive logistic studies. These were conducted with ships of a similar tonnage with a focus on the proceeds of certain voyages.
Considering different travelling distances, speeds and fuels, the fast ship proved much more efficient in terms of nett proceeds per pay.
The other nominee, nominated in the category specials, the MS Silni, was awarded with the Runner-up award. The fast crew supplier MS Silni was nominated for its innovative axe-bow design, which significantly decreases vertical accelaration.
