(With videos) In 2022 the first ship sails through the New Lock in Terneuzen.

The large, new lock within the existing lock complex offers plenty of opportunities. Inland shipping will gain better and faster access from the Western Scheldt to the Ghent-Terneuzen canal and onwards towards France. Furthermore, it will become easier for large ocean going vessels to reach hinterland ports. The new lock will also boost economic activities and employment in both the Netherlands and Belgium.

The first video below explains the need for the new lock as well as what it will mean for the area (please note, all commentary with this video is in Dutch). The second video gives an impression of what the new lock will look like (the picture at the top is a still from the second video, both videos by "Nieuwe Sluis Terneuzen").
