SUMMARY:Electric & Hybrid Marine Expo North America
DESCRIPTION:Electric & Hybrid Marine Expo North America Exhibition and Conference\, to be held at Long Beach Convention Center\, USA\, March 13 & 14\, 2024\, is dedicated solely to showcasing the very latest and next-generation electric and hybrid marine propulsion technologies\, charging equipment and fuel-saving solutions. \nTargeting the North American market\, Electric & Hybrid Marine Expo is the only exhibition and conference that will showcase these emerging efficient technologies and components to an audience of shipowners and operators\, boat builders\, shipyards\, propulsion system designers and manufacturers\, naval architects\, military fleet operators/chiefs and port operators\, all interested in exploring ways to decarbonize and the path to zero-emission shipping. \nElectric & Hybrid Marine Expo Europe\nNothing but green marine propulsion systems\, emission-reduction fuels\, hybrid systems\, charging technologies and\, of course\, the components within them will be on display – and the only visitors invited to attend will be those who purchase and specify marine charging infrastructures\, and vessel engines and components. Every single exhibit will be of relevance to every single visitor\, and the only thing visitors will be searching for is cleaner\, more efficient\, fuel-saving propulsion systems.

SUMMARY:KNVTS lecture: Damen Air Cavity System (DACS) helps ships save fuel
DESCRIPTION:Reducing the vessel’s resistance lowers fuel/energy consumption and emissions. DACS works by forming stable air cavities on the flat bottom of a ship. This innovative approach reduces the wetted surface area and therefore lowers the vessel’s drag. The concept\, which stems from a research project at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Netherlands\, shows high overall efficiency and contributes significantly to reducing fuel consumption and emissions. The presentation will cover the theoretical background\, share experimental results from laboratory tests and highlight full-scale application results.

SUMMARY:KIVI lecture for KNVTS members: Seabed nodule collection at Allseas
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday evening 28th of March KNVTS members are welcome to join KIVI at Allseas in Delft for a lecture by Edward Heerema on the development of Allseas’ solution for collecting polymetallic nodules from the ocean floor. \nAllseas has developed and built a system designed to collect polymetallic nodules from the seabed with minimal impact on the local environment The system comprises a nodule collection vehicle that drives over the seabed and collects nodules like a large vacuum cleaner. Inside the collector\, nodules are separated from sediment and pumped up through a riser pipe to a surface production vessel\, Hidden Gem. \nIn November 2022 the system was tested in the Clarion Clipperton zone in the Pacific Ocean. Within the framework of these tests\, independent marine experts and scientists conducted extensive environmental impact analyses.

SUMMARY:KNVTS lecture: Caterpillar's roadmap for the maritime energy transition
DESCRIPTION:Please note\, this lecture will be in Dutch.
