SUMMARY:Museum exhibition: The Van de Veldes: Greenwich\, Art and the Sea
DESCRIPTION:In 1673\, two Dutch artists travelled to England at the request of Charles II. Willem van de Velde the Elder was renowned for his highly accurate drawings of ships and maritime life. He would even go to sea himself\, paper in hand\, to capture naval battles as they were raging. His son\, Willem van de Velde the Younger\, was a celebrated painter. From calm coastal scenes to fierce storms\, his work captured the many moods of the ocean. \nTogether they established a studio at the Queen’s House in Greenwich. Here they worked\, creating royal commissions\, magnificent paintings and tapestries\, as well as thousands of detailed sketches\, drawings and designs. Now\, 350 years on from their first arrival in England\, the Queen’s House will once again become a home for the Van de Veldes. \nThe Van de Veldes: Greenwich\, Art and the Sea will follow the journey of these émigré artists\, and explore how they changed the course of British maritime art. Prepare to set sail for Greenwich\, and experience the art of the Van de Veldes.

SUMMARY:RINA Technical Conference: Managing CII and Associated Challenges
DESCRIPTION:As part of its commitment to addressing climate change\, the IMO has been working on the development of a Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) for international shipping. The CII is intended to measure the carbon efficiency of ships and assess their relative carbon emissions performance. \nThe concept of the CII was introduced in the IMO’s Initial Strategy on Reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships\, adopted in 2018. The strategy sets out a vision to reduce total annual greenhouse gas emissions from international shipping. \nThe CII is being developed as a key tool to assess and monitor the carbon intensity of ships\, providing a standardized and transparent measure for evaluating their energy efficiency and emissions performance. It is expected to be a dynamic indicator that can be updated periodically to reflect technological advancements and best practices. \nThe CII requirements will take effect from 2023\, so in 2024 the industry is expecting to receive the first feedback of CII measure. The Royal Institution of Naval Architects is proposing the technical conference to gather key stakeholders of the maritime industry to discuss challenges and opportunities of this measure.

SUMMARY:KNVTS – KIVI Martec presentation: Future Proof Shipping
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday 25 January\, KNVTS and KIVI Martec are jointly organising an interesting lecture on the design and conversion of the first fully emission-free inland container ship. Dirk de Jong will address the design of the system\, the safety philosophy and discuss the challenges faced during the design and approval process of the hydrogen-powered vessel. The second part of his presentation will focus on the actual conversion of the vessel and the first experiences with the H2 Barge 1 sailing on hydrogen.
