SUMMARY:Joint lecture KNVTS/CEDA: Working together towards climate-neutral dredging
DESCRIPTION:In this meeting\, we have four lectures related to the theme of climate-neutral dredging. \nThey will talk about the Coastline Care and Fairway Maintenance transition path\, in which a roadmap has been created to reduce emissions in dredging in the coming years. This has a number of already possible solutions\, but also requires innovations. \nThrough the collaboration platform ZED hub\, experiments are being conducted to further learn about innovative techniques in dredging. Two of these trials will be explained by member contractors. One pilot on hydrogen dredging and one on battery-electric solutions. And of course\, the speakers will be open to questions\, comments and discussion. \nProgramme:\n15:30-16:00: reception and registration in the Rhine Foyer (bring ID required!)\n16:00-18:00:\n– welcome speech CEDA/KNVTS – Rhine Hall\n– transition path shoreline care and fairway maintenance – Edwin Hupkes (Port of – Rotterdam Authority)\n– innovation platform Zero Emission Dredging hub – Arjen de Jong (ZED hub)\n– Medusa pilot\, hydrogen dredging – Martijn Kom (Boskalis)\n– Christiaan P pilot\, conversion to (battery) electric – Cor Paans (Van Oord)\n– closing\n18:00-19:30: drinks & buffet in the Rhine Foyer

SUMMARY:KNVTS TekTalk: Unmanned vehicles in naval warfare
DESCRIPTION:Over the course of recent years\, a revolution has been underway in the modern naval battlefield. On the 1st of February of this year\, a video surfaced on the internet of the sinking of the Russian Navy’s Tarantul Class corvette “Ivanovets” by the Ukrainian armed forces. Since then\, the use of these unmanned assets by the Ukrainian military has shown unprecedented success. The operational impact of unmanned surface drones on the modern naval battlefield cannot be understated. \nIn this TekTalk\, jointly organized by KNVTS and KIVI Martec\, Rui Costa will take us by the hand through the history of unmanned systems in Naval Warfare\, the current developments and challenges in technology\, and the outlook of innovations\, countermeasures\, and the opportunities for non-governmental applications. \nRui Costa is a gifted speaker and publisher on this topic. Currently working at Damen Naval in Vlissingen\, he joined the organization in 2023 after a career in the Portuguese Navy. Rui will be our guide and source of information\, but we aim to have an open discussion to share and gain insights.

SUMMARY:KNVTS lecture: The role of dual fuel combustion technology in shipping's transition story
DESCRIPTION:Please note\, this lecture will be in Dutch.

DESCRIPTION:Posidonia brings the whole shipping world to its exhibitors. The international shipping community attends in strength with national pavilions and thousands of visitors. But Posidonia is also home to the owners of the world’s largest merchant fleet. Greece\, a top ship- owning nation\, operating 21% of global and 59% of European capacity\, represents a multi-billion dollar opportunity for shipbuilders and for suppliers of marine equipment\, information technology and the whole spectrum of marine services. The upgrading of the Greek fleet has kept its worth above $150bn. At the same time Greek owners have been ordering new vessels in the shipyards of Japan\, China and South Korea. Oil tankers and LNG and LPG carriers are all under construction\, along with dry bulk carriers and container ships.

SUMMARY:KNVTS lecture: Reducing container loss at sea
DESCRIPTION:GBMS is an innovative start-up in the Maritime sector. Over the last two years\, the company has developed a captains-decision support system to show the loads in container-stacks in real-time to the crew. \nThe incident with the MSC-ZOE\, 1st of January 2017 has made clear how 342 containers spread over a natural reserve have a devastating effect the environment. Sadly this is not rare event. Every year\, worldwide\, over 3000 TUE containers are lost at sea. \nIn many cases this is due to the crew not knowing how close they are sailing to the limits\, with respect to stack-loads. While sailing\, the crew does not have any indication what forces are acting in the container-stacks. Besides that\, before of loading\, the crew has to approve the cargo plan by checking the cargo security manual (CSM). However\, the CSM can ever include all possible stacking combinations. Checking is therefore very difficult without accurate and fast digital tools\, which in most cases are not available. \nGBMS has developed the Sensorium system. This system can calculate the rules laid down in the CSM in a fraction of a second. This has opened up the possibility to run these calculation very often and show the actual loads in the container stack in real time to the crew. \nDr. ir. Michiel Gunsing\, founder of GBMS\, will explain the system and show how this can reduce the loss of containers at sea. \nSpeaker: Dr. Ir. Miciel Gunsing\, founder of GBMS \nLanguage: English \nHall open: 19:15 \nStart: 19:30 \nEnd: 22:00

SUMMARY:KNVTS lecture: Research vessel Wim Wolff
DESCRIPTION:Please note that this lecture will be in Dutch.
