SUMMARY:Navalia
DESCRIPTION:In 2006\, a group of Galician entrepreneurs decided to create Navalia\, the first naval fair in northern Spain\, aware of the great potential of this sector. They chose Vigo\, one of the most important cities in Galicia and a reference point in the Spanish naval industry due to the large number of shipyards and auxiliary industries concentrated in the area. The goal was clear: to become a promotional tool within the naval sector in Spain\, as well as an international meeting point for companies in the maritime world. \nAfter nine editions and more than 19 years of hard work\, Navalia has successfully become the leading fair in Spain and is now ranked among the top three in Europe. This biennial event is held every two years\, striving to improve key figures and achieve new milestones with each edition.

SUMMARY:CEDA Dredging Days 2026
DESCRIPTION:It’s a Zoo out there! Possibly an apt expression given the current global developments. The international dredging industry is affected and pressed to adapt continuously. The CEDA Dredging Days 2026 conference\, taking place from 11-13 May at the Antwerp ZOO clearly offers opportunities to explore and discuss “the zoo out there” in many ways. \nThe even takes place at A Room with a ZOO\, in the Antwerp ZOO\, founded in 1844. Literally\, by going out into the zoo and taking flora and fauna as the backdrop for interactive sessions\, and metaphorically\, by exploring and discussing what challenges and uncertainties the dredging industry is facing\, as a result of the renewed raw geopolitical reality. Combine this with fun elements like impersonating characteristic animals in a role play\, and we’re set for an inspiring and dynamic event. \nPaper sessions and interactive sessions will alternate\, with classic and new topics. To name a few: Building with nature\, decarbonisation\, dredging technology\, environmental effects\, AI and data. The organising committee is designing the Dredging Days 2026 programme to be attractive for everyone across the dredging community: both technical and commercial oriented individuals\, young professionals and seniors alike. Participants will be able to gain knowledge\, widen their network or deepen their existing relationships.

SUMMARY:KNVTS lecture: Diesel engines in the energy transition - Everllence’s approach
DESCRIPTION:Please note\, this lecture will be in Dutch.

SUMMARY:KNVTS lecture: Uncrewed Maritime Airpower
DESCRIPTION:Modern Naval Warfare is undergoing a significant transformation period. As Navies move towards expanding persistent surveillance capabilities\, distributed operations\, and cost-effective force projection across the maritime domain\, Uncrewed Maritime Systems are emerging as critical enablers of these capabilities. However\, their integration into naval forces presents formidable operational\, strategic\, and technical challenges. \nThis lecture will focus on one of these types of systems: Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS). The lecture will examine how navies worldwide are implementing Maritime UAS\, contrasting high-end carrier-integrated systems with attritable and asymmetric platforms\, relevant operational and strategic challenges\, as well as integration constraints from a ship designer’s perspective. \nUsing a regional comparative framework\, from the Black Sea to the Indo-Pacific\, the session analyses how strategic context drives divergent solutions\, and distinguishes mature operational capabilities from experimental or demonstrator programs. The objective is to provide a force design and naval engineering perspective on what maritime uncrewed airpower means in practice for fleet development. \nSpeaker: Rui Costa\, former Portuguese Navy Officer\, Author\, and Unmanned Maritime Systems SME

SUMMARY:KNVTS lecture: Allseas – Pioneering the next generation of clean energy
DESCRIPTION:The maritime sector accounts for 3% of global CO2 emissions and must address climate targets. Allseas has chosen a Small Modular Reactor (SMR) for sustainable ship power\, selecting a High-Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor (HTGR) for its safety\, reliability\, and zero emissions\, even in challenging conditions. \nAs nuclear regulations for marine environments continue to develop\, Allseas decided to construct the first HTGR on land. Onshore\, industrial clusters often deal with high energy expenses\, grid congestion\, and unreliable renewable energy sources. The Allseas HTGR helps relieve pressure on the grid while delivering reliable\, carbon-free power and heat—supporting faster decarbonisation and strengthening the resilience and long-term competitiveness of industry. \nErik Schreurs will outline the steps that Allseas is taking toward the goal of nuclear-powered civil shipping. Drawing on his experience with the Dutch Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection\, he will discuss the reactor technology in more detail\, the challenges that the marine environment brings\, and the approaches that are taken on the regulatory side.

SUMMARY:KNVTS lecture: Wind load measurements and wind load predictions of large ships in open sea and in harbours
DESCRIPTION:In the lecture the results of the WINDLASS Joint Industry Project (Wind Loads And Securing Ships) will be presented. The objective of WINDLASS JIP is a better modelling of the 3D wind field and wind loads on high-windage vessels in ports\, locks\, waterways and at exposed terminals. \nThe need for this is given by the fact that large wind loads on ships increasingly give rise to practical problems and risk for incidents. This is due to e.g. the ongoing growth of vessel sizes\, the increasing occurrence of “exposed” port sites with coastal conditions\, and last but not least climate change. \nAdditional knowledge about wind loads on ships is considered helpful to enable a safer vessel operation in ports and waterways\, but will also support engineering analysis/design and navigation training. \nSpeaker: Dr. Ir. Jaap de Wilde\, MARIN

SUMMARY:Navy Tech and Seabed Defence 2026
DESCRIPTION:Naval forces worldwide are adapting to an era of fast-evolving\, complex threats – from uncrewed systems and anti-ship weapons to cyber attacks\, electronic warfare\, and now challenges arising from the seabed itself. As peer and near-peer adversaries modernise at pace\, it is critical that navies evolve physically\, conceptually\, and culturally to retain operational advantage across all maritime domains\, including those beneath the surface. \nTaking place from 3–5 February 2026 in Gothenburg\, Sweden\, Navy Tech 2026 will now incorporate Seabed Defence\, a dedicated focus on the protection of undersea infrastructure and offshore assets. As global reliance on subsea energy networks\, communication cables\, and military systems increases\, safeguarding the seabed has become a strategic imperative. This new component will explore emerging threats to critical underwater infrastructure and the technological innovations needed to defend it. \nThis expanded tabletop exhibition and conference brings together an authoritative speaker faculty alongside programme managers\, front-line commanders\, engineers\, scientists\, and leading industry experts. Across three days of presentations and discussions\, attendees will examine how digital integration\, expeditionary design\, multi-domain operations\, and seabed security are reshaping the modern maritime battlespace. With an emphasis on collaboration between industry\, military\, and research communities\, the event supports informed decision-making\, identifies capability gaps\, and accelerates innovation for future naval and subsea warfare.
