SUMMARY:KNVTS lecture: Allseas – Pioneering the next generation of clean energy
DESCRIPTION:The maritime sector accounts for 3% of global CO2 emissions and must address climate targets. Allseas has chosen a Small Modular Reactor (SMR) for sustainable ship power\, selecting a High-Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor (HTGR) for its safety\, reliability\, and zero emissions\, even in challenging conditions. \nAs nuclear regulations for marine environments continue to develop\, Allseas decided to construct the first HTGR on land. Onshore\, industrial clusters often deal with high energy expenses\, grid congestion\, and unreliable renewable energy sources. The Allseas HTGR helps relieve pressure on the grid while delivering reliable\, carbon-free power and heat—supporting faster decarbonisation and strengthening the resilience and long-term competitiveness of industry. \nErik Schreurs will outline the steps that Allseas is taking toward the goal of nuclear-powered civil shipping. Drawing on his experience with the Dutch Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection\, he will discuss the reactor technology in more detail\, the challenges that the marine environment brings\, and the approaches that are taken on the regulatory side.

SUMMARY:Green Marine Transport 2026
DESCRIPTION:The European Conference Green Marine Transport 2026 will take place on 18-19th of March in Amsterdam\, bringing together key decision-makers and innovators from across the maritime industry. Over two days\, the conference will unite shipping companies\, port authorities\, policy makers\, leading suppliers\, and technology providers to explore the latest developments\, challenges\, and opportunities in sustainable shipping. \nThe push towards green marine transport is accelerating across Europe. From LNG\, hydrogen\, and advanced biofuels to cutting-edge vessel designs and propulsion systems\, the industry is embracing technologies that reduce environmental impact without compromising performance. The rapid emergence of electric and hybrid vessels is already reshaping short-sea and inland shipping\, opening new possibilities for low- and zero-emission operations. \nAmsterdam\, with its strong maritime heritage and commitment to sustainability\, provides the perfect backdrop for discussing these transformations. The 2026 edition will feature expert-led panel\, in-depth technical sessions\, and networking opportunities designed to foster collaboration between industry\, academia\, and policymakers. \nBy accelerating the shift towards cleaner operations\, green marine transport not only helps protect our oceans and air quality but also enhances the global competitiveness of European shipping. As environmental responsibility becomes a defining factor for business success\, this event will be a platform to share strategies\, showcase innovations\, and build partnerships that will shape the future of maritime transport.

SUMMARY:KNVTS lecture: Wind load measurements and wind load predictions of large ships in open sea and in harbours
DESCRIPTION:In the lecture the results of the WINDLASS Joint Industry Project (Wind Loads And Securing Ships) will be presented. The objective of WINDLASS JIP is a better modelling of the 3D wind field and wind loads on high-windage vessels in ports\, locks\, waterways and at exposed terminals. \nThe need for this is given by the fact that large wind loads on ships increasingly give rise to practical problems and risk for incidents. This is due to e.g. the ongoing growth of vessel sizes\, the increasing occurrence of “exposed” port sites with coastal conditions\, and last but not least climate change. \nAdditional knowledge about wind loads on ships is considered helpful to enable a safer vessel operation in ports and waterways\, but will also support engineering analysis/design and navigation training. \nSpeaker: Dr. Ir. Jaap de Wilde\, MARIN

SUMMARY:Navy Tech and Seabed Defence 2026
DESCRIPTION:Naval forces worldwide are adapting to an era of fast-evolving\, complex threats – from uncrewed systems and anti-ship weapons to cyber attacks\, electronic warfare\, and now challenges arising from the seabed itself. As peer and near-peer adversaries modernise at pace\, it is critical that navies evolve physically\, conceptually\, and culturally to retain operational advantage across all maritime domains\, including those beneath the surface. \nTaking place from 3–5 February 2026 in Gothenburg\, Sweden\, Navy Tech 2026 will now incorporate Seabed Defence\, a dedicated focus on the protection of undersea infrastructure and offshore assets. As global reliance on subsea energy networks\, communication cables\, and military systems increases\, safeguarding the seabed has become a strategic imperative. This new component will explore emerging threats to critical underwater infrastructure and the technological innovations needed to defend it. \nThis expanded tabletop exhibition and conference brings together an authoritative speaker faculty alongside programme managers\, front-line commanders\, engineers\, scientists\, and leading industry experts. Across three days of presentations and discussions\, attendees will examine how digital integration\, expeditionary design\, multi-domain operations\, and seabed security are reshaping the modern maritime battlespace. With an emphasis on collaboration between industry\, military\, and research communities\, the event supports informed decision-making\, identifies capability gaps\, and accelerates innovation for future naval and subsea warfare.

SUMMARY:KNVTS lecture: Lithium batteries – Thermal runaway: what now?
DESCRIPTION:Please note\, this lecture will be in Dutch.

SUMMARY:KNVTS lecture: Beyond the console – Human intelligence in an automated maritime era
DESCRIPTION:Automation has fundamentally changed the maritime sector—but every system remains dependent on human intelligence to interpret\, adapt\, and make decisions. This lecture explores the evolving role of humans within increasingly autonomous maritime systems\, from bridge operation to strategic decision-making. \nUsing examples from recent and ongoing risk analyses in the North Sea\, stationkeeping research in inland locks\, and judicial expertise\, Capt. Naomi Vanderstockt demonstrates how the future of maritime safety lies in the interaction between human and system intelligence—a shift from operating technology to co-creating resilience. \nSpeaker: Naomie Vanderstockt

SUMMARY:Rotterdam Energy Port
DESCRIPTION:Please note\, this event will be in Dutch.
